Fall Transition

Sherkica Miller-McIntyre - Thursday, September 17, 2015

Feel that nip in the air? Fall is near. That means many things for many facets of life. The biggest adjustment we generally make for the cool breeze that signifies fall is upon us, is the FALL TRANSITION…SITION…SITION! (That was meant to be a dramatic echo. Not so effective when writing/reading, but hopefully you get the point.) And, although we have to do it year after year, it’s always quite daunting and there is always something that falls through the cracks. The remedy to that is organization.

Carod Properties would like to help you with that. Clothing is a no-brainer. Time to start packing away those summer dresses, shorts, and beachwear. We promise it will hurt no more than a week. Regardless, it’s got to be done. Whether it’s for you or the kids, although there may be less material for a pair of shorts, they still take away prime real-estate in closets and drawers from the things you will begin needing such as pants and long-sleeves. We recommend leaving out a few summery options for a freak heatwave and also taking out a warm jacket (if your winter clothes are put away), for the same type of freak weather conditions that may bring colder weather. Additionally, pack away these items in see-through containers that you may easily access them just in case fall is reluctant to show its face and you have need for them. Labelling is also a good idea (for example: dresses, shits/tanks, shorts).

Use this transition time for routine auto maintenance. Cold snaps begin in fall and weatherizing your vehicle is better done now than closer to winter, so as not to get caught by surprise by NC weather. It’s good to have things like tune ups, replacements, and other routine basics on a schedule. The transition of the seasons is a great time to also schedule vehicle maintenance.

Of course this is a great time to make some vital transitions in your home. You can do things like check weather-stripping on doors, clean chimneys flues, and change any filters in duct work. It is also a good time to either verify the maintenance schedule for HVAC systems or schedule them. If you are a renter, you can follow-up with your landlord about these items if they are not specified as tenant responsibility.

Seasons changes. Happens every year. While there are things that are either unavoidable or unpredictable, you can lessen the negative impact on your life and make as smooth a transition as possible by practicing the motto of the Boy Scouts…BE PREPARED!
